  1. if the horse is good enough it can win from any gate position

  2. steppenwolfer was a stalker anyway. fit his style to fall back.

  3. LOSE!!!!!!!!

  4. curlin has positional speed and can come from off the pace so with a good break he can get a good trip behind the front runners...fact of the matter is few horses get an ideal trip with the size of fields running the derby(with the exception of Giacomo who won in a complete set up) ...if curlin has enough seasoning he will run a good race...

  5. Well I think he will be okay as long as he gets to the front early. I haven't really been following him, so I don't really no how he usually runs. But dont worry, he will be fine. Don't forget that two can be a good position too though, because there is less distance around, as long as it doesn't rain.

    Good Luck!

  6. It won't matter, Barbaro. Curlin is too green to win the Derby. If you like favorites bet on Street Sense, and if you want to go for value bet on Zanjero.

Curlin will be a fine race horse in the future, but the Derby will be too much for him. So, yes, he will lose... no matter how loose he is... hehehe

  7. Well I am also a Curlin fan. Probably not as much as you though because I've read lots of your Q&A's and you sure like Curlin!

Anyways, I think that he'll be fine. Just look at that horse race! He wouldn't let anyone beat him if they paid him (which they do, lol)

But yeah. He is very good race horse and I think he'll be fine. I mean he's been #2 once before and got first.

So hun... don't worry. He won't get boxed in and he will probably win. Just cheer 'em on girl!

  8. First off the number 1 and number 2 post positions are coveted by some trainers because it's the shortest distance around the track.  As long as he has a good break he should be fine.  Besides it's the derby, it's such a big field that odds are your not going to have the perfect trip anyway.  I think he'll be fine, don't worry so much, it's just a horse race, it's suppose to be a fun and enjoyable sport.

  9. first...  relax.  it could be worse.

Last year Steppenwolfer started from the #2 post and finished 3rd...  he was quite a way behind Barbaro...  but they all were.

2 years before that, Lionheart came in 2nd...  he left from the #5 post, but since it was an 18 horse field, there were no horses in the #1 or #2...  so Lionheart was the 3rd horse from the rail...  there was a little room to maneuver, but he was on the inside of the field.

Races can be won from the inside posts.

And stop and think about this...  all the horses are leaving in a line...  the ones on the outside have to spend time diving in toward the rail...  that gives the horses on the rail some time to run forward and claim front of the pack positions.  so long as Curlin breaks well, he'll be able to run up to claim a nice 3-5 position and he can tuck in behind the speed horses and wait for his move.

even if he doesn't break great...  horses come from back in the pack to win all the time.  given Curlin's record of such wide margins of victory, it won't hurt him to go around the pack...  if he's really enough horse to beat these grade 1 horses, then this post position will be fine for him

and keep in mind that his people chose this spot.  they could have had the far outside.  surely they must believe he'll do better in #2 than he would have in #18

trust in your horse and his trainer...  if they're good enough to win, they'll find a way.

  10. Anything can happen at the Kentucky Derby!! The favorites don't always win.If Curlin gets a good trip,he could win.Any of the 20 horses could win.A good horse with a good trip can certainly do it.

  11. In route races, post position really does not matter that much, I'm sure some pundits out there will agree. I have not seen the PP's on Curlin, but if he is good as they say he is, then the draw won't really matter.  Personally, I don't think he'll win, he may end up in the money.

  12. There is speed on the outside, so he may get boxed.  It is a long run into the first turn.  Anything can happen.  I really don't see Curlin coming from off the pace, but you never know.
