Okay so my puppy has this little lump that raises and goes in right above his privates .... When it raises its about a centimeter wide and less then a centimeter tall.. but half the time its hidden.. i just noticed it today because it was popping out. ... I wonder if that is his belly button but I'm insecure!

I've never noticed it before, and i was looking on line on google and i read something about hernias or hernated belly buttons,... but its not like the bump is always there...

if i touch it it feels like a little hole when its in and when its out it looks like its full of water.. Im scared

  1. My dog's belly-button is flat.  That sounds like a herniated belly-button (my friend's daughter had one).  Call your vet first thing tomorrow morning.

If you notice any additional lumps or hard spots tonight, you should call an emergency vet in case of bloat (which can be fatal).

  2. From personal experience on hernias, the can pop in and out at any time.  I had one myself a few years back and initially the doctors were going to try and pop it back in.  After many attempts I had to have surgery.  I was told that if it pops in and out on it's own and you can see it poped out and pop it back in it is likely that it will heal itself.  I know many puppies have hernias.  I would watch it and see, but really think about having a vet take a look at it.

  3. It's probably an umbilical hernia, which can be repaired when the dog is neutered. Just make a vet appointment to make sure.

  4. Yes it does sound like a hernia. My dog has one and the vet I worked for didn't want to fix it. Because they are normally no problem unless they get large enough for the intestines to fall through. When you get him neutered ask to see if your will go ahead and fix it. Since you googled you should know the hows and whys. Good luck

  5. Have your puppies testes dropped yet. if not this could be the cause. Maybe only one has dropped so far. If this has already occurred it could be something to worry about. In this case i would take the puppy to the vets.

  6. it may be a belly button hernia just have your vet look at it he can tell you he can fix it I think it's about $200 to $300 to have one fixed and it may just be nothing but if your wondering and don't then I would have him look at it I had one fixed on a girl chi and had her spay at the same time and it was about $350 for both.

  7. Yea I would say that this is a hernia. It needs to be checked by the vet because hernia's can kill dogs. I have a dog with a hernia, which was checked by the vet and he said that she would be better of keeping it there than removing it, but that is because it's closed on the other side, so it's not hurting her one bit. Just get her checked by the vet and see what they think. Good luck.
