OMG MY HAMSTER ATE HER BABIES!! :( HELPP?

Question

Well my hamster ate her babies i think its my faulr for not beiing prpared right hen i was putting food in her cage i saw 2 babies.i put in food i left them alone. Icheck up on them this morning very cautiosuly & the babys were no were 2 be found.. i cautiosly removed the top & they were eaten .

Now shes veryyyy activ running around she has a fat belly and i dont know what 2 do

Cannabalism is commen with hamsters. If the mother cannot properly care for some of her babies, or even beleives that the babies will not make it she will eat them to keep them from suffering. There is nothing you can do. This is just a coarse of nature. Also, if you touched the babies, because she didn't know they were hers because the oils on your body changed the babie's cent.

It is normal, she knows what she's doing. They wouldn't survive too long as  a species if they were that stupid... there's a reason she ate them. Most likely she could sense that they were not healthy.

Hamsters et they're babies.Its very normal.They do this becuase they are stressed sometimes.If you bother them during pregnancy or a little bit after pregnancy then they can get stress and canibalise they're babies.Its perfectly normal.Hope i helped and good luck!

There's nothing you can do.

They're dead.

And it sounds like it was totally unpreventable- if the babies were sick, dying, or already dead, she would have eaten them to clean the nest.

If the mother has eaten the babies it usually means that something is wrong with the babies and the mother did not want to make the babies suffer and killed them.

They where probably sick, or not as fit. The mother probably thought they wouldn't make it very far in live so she just "did them a favor" and ate them. This is very common so don't feel bad. At least you have two more babies. But don't stress the mom or she will eat them all.

You cant do anything. Most all hamsters eat there babies (Its very Sad). Sorry...Good Luck with you Fat hamster though!
