  1. it is true school can go from early in the morning till real late at night. thats because they have something a long the lines of night study sessions. where they do individual studying at school and all that. it depends from school to school, though.

teachers do hit you. and they give out really bad detentions as well.

you do have vacation's though. however, most parents force their kids to go to hakwons, and thats sorta like extra schooling, so i guess in a way, some kids dont have vacations.

and school is hard. education is very important to asian countries, and teachers are very "respected" in terms of the social ladder, so yea...

i wouldnt want to go to school in korea.

  2. it's true to a certain extent i believe. i've just asked my korean friends and they said they the hitting thing was rubbed off years ago, and that they still have night lessons and stuff, but right now it's really up to them to choose. the parents are releasing their hold on their children a little bit more too.

i live in singapore, and i got to say that exams are really your lifeline in school. we don't stay late in school, but we do study by ourselves till the middle of the night. we also have our compulsory extra activities, so that just adds to the burden. during the year for a national exam though, the teachers push you extremely hard. i'm doing my GCSE O level examination this year, and i've just gotten my free night in 4 months. i have been staying back till 8 for the past 4 months, if not i'll study till 2am and wake up 3 hours later.

i think i'm becoming an owl soon....

  3. As far as I know it's pretty similar to Japanese high schools, so I'd think so.

  4. lol the hitting was years back

now not a lot of schools hit students anymore unless they are like really strict

  5. Who cares if they go to school at 8am-10pm, it's called learning so they can have a great future later on. Hitting was way long time ago, vacation of course you take breaks. School should be hard for the ones in the older grades. I'm Korean.

  6. Yes, in Korea, when students are lacking work and are troublemakers, they keep you late. Sometimes they keep you that late for a studying or tutoring session, or after school programs. Teachers would hit you only if you don't respect or fool around too much. And of course there's vacation, ex. Spring Break . (:

And I agree ... school is so hard.

  7. Almost all true. School times are true. They have a few hours at night for self-study. All middle school and high school students in the country wear uniforms, but each school has their own uniform so kids in the same city can easily tell what school another kid is from.

Teachers will make a student open their palms and hit them. Also the back of calves on their legs. Another punishment is to make a student raise their arms straight up for 10 minutes.

They do have regular vacation except high school seniors. They go to school on Sundays too because they have to prepare for the college entrance exam which is the biggest and most stressful exam in the country. The school year is from March-December with a month break in the summer.

They study the same subjects as Americans, but at a much higher level. Kids told me they have to know practically everything in the book.

  8. "Is it true that you need to go to school from 8am until 10 pm?" Um...No. You can, if you want to, with permission. The only people who stay that long is usually the student council president or a president of a club, sometimes even the sports team if they are staying that late. The school is usually kept by a grounds keeper or a guard, typically male.

"Teacher would hit you?" Uh..Not anymore. They changed that. The teachers and administrators found that it doesn't motative the students with physical punishment. Or at least in elementary, middle, and coed schools. I'm not to sure about private seperate gender schools.

"And you don't have any vacation?" They do. All schools do. Even year round. Their school schuedule is a little bit different. They have the same breaks they just call it different and the length is different.

"School is so hard?" School is always hard, well at least when your teachers push you. Other nations are more laid back, like the US with the whole "No Student Left Behind" making the classes go to the slowest learner.
