OMG! They Found Another One?!?

So we went to the doctor today and did an ultrasound and I already knew I was having twins so we went in and this time we had a new technician. She wasn't that smart..she didn't even read my chart or anything..anyways She says your aware your having multiples right? and we said yes we know we are having our 2nd set of twins. She kinda chuckled a little which I didn't like! But then she says let me go get the doctor really quick(I was SO scared at that point) He came in and they acted all amazed and it took forever for them to get it out...But they found another baby! I'm 37 weeks preggo and the just found my third baby..They said it was hiding behind baby "A" so they couldn't see it nor pick up the heart beat. So it turns out I'm having Triplets! Have any of you ever heard of a situation like this? I mean I'm happy but still very amazed..However My hubby finally cracked and let us find out what the s*x of the babies are.. 2 girls and 1 boy..so I'm kinda rethinking names now..so keep on the look out for a question for names b/c I'm really stressing the names now that I've got another one!

So have you ever heard anything like this?

thanks! :)

  1. I've never heard of anything like this in recent times and am amazed you have made it to 37 weeks with triplets,  and more amazed that if you are having high quality prenatal care you managed to get this far without them being able to detect it.

It used to happen years ago when they didn't have ultrasounds or sophisticated dopplers or non-stress testing, but in recent years?  Never known it.

Who on earth did your 20 week ultrasound?  Babies don't "hide" in full fetal morphology ultrasounds.  And having a baby "hiding" wouldn't mean they couldn't hear the heartbeats.

So through a whole preganncy, no technician one noticed an extra baby in any ultrasounds, no doctor or midwife thought your fundal height was larger than it should be or your weight was higher than it should be and no lab noticed elevated hormone/protein levels in your blood tests?  Not even when you did your gestational diabetes test???  They should have picked it up with this blood test then if they managed to miss it all those other times.

So what's the plan now?   They would need a definite management plan as this really changes the goalposts, especially since they failed to pick up something this simple sooner.

At 37 weeks a triplet pregnancy would be critical, even a twin pregnancy would be watched closely, they should have expected to deliver your "twins" about now.  I'm surprised you're not in hospital already or at least on complete bedrest, as they would need to ensure placental functioning and make sure your uterus can cope.   I've only seen a couple of patients make it this far with triplets and both of them had a lot of trouble moving around comfortably as they were pretty huge.

Almost all triplet deliveries are premature - 32 to 33 weeks is the average.  Only a very small percentage would make it this far and need close monitoring.

They should be making arrangements to deliver your babies as soon as possible.

  2. I actually haven't heard of this before but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! Enjoy your THREE bundles of joy! I am sorry I couldn't help I just wanted to wish you luck! CONGRATS!

  3. ive heard of it! i am a triplet! im 14. whatever you do give them totally seperate names! and make sure you dont lump them together and call them " the triplets". drives me and my sisters crazy. also once they can talk make sure there in diffrent clothes! i hated matching my sisters. you can get the same outfit in diffrent colors that wasnt to bad. also when there teens/ preteens dont put them all in the same room, trust me they will hate each other! wish all the luck. if you have any questions try and mail me. my email is morgielou2@yahoo.com. hope they turn out as healthy as me and my sisters.

  4. Congratulations !!

    and Good luck !

  5. yes it happens alot with multiples. i watch discovery health chanel and have seen this happen. congrats and good luck with a handfull

  6. wow congrats! I have heard of 1 baby hiding behing the other/ lol! wow thats awsome! Have a smooth rest of the pregnancy! Wow, you would really be brave if you had them natural...haha you couldnt pay me to have 3 naturally at the same time! wow congrats

  7. i have heard that it can happen, but very rare 2 happen. but congrats on the triplets.

  8. no but congrats

  9. Congratulations! I've never heard that happening so far along in a pregnancy before!

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with twins, I'll make sure I get them to check if I have an extra one on board next time I have an ultrasound!

Congrats again and good luck with the name picking!

  10. Congrats. What  a trip that was. May they all be healthy and arrive safe.

I have heard on large group multiples ones "hidden" behind organ or another baby, but usually in large multiple sextuplets. One showed I watched the last one was behind Mom's spleen and they did not find baby until delivery.

    Good luck

  11. Congratulations!

Sounds very exciting. No, I havent heard anything like that! You must be happy.

    Best Of Luck!

  12. Never happened to me, but I would like to say congrats!!!!

  13. Aww how amazing. Congratulations!!    I have actually heard of a situation like this yes and I would think with 3+ it wouldn't be that uncommon.   I knew someone having twins and the nurse did not pick up the heartbeat of baby B the first few check ups but finally noticed two.   So you're not alone...   But thats great. Congrats! I hope all goes well

  14. People with twins barely hold on to give birth to 37 weeks, let alone triplets?

  15. Congratulations!! No I haven't heard anything like this before.

    Names: Sydney, shane, sariah

  16. COGRATS for you and your hubby   names for you MATTIE,MARTTI AND MONTI  WOW GOOD LUCK

  17. Lighten up a bit on the ultra sound tech. I am sure she looked at your file but was just seeing what you had been told since she saw another baby. She sounded nice to me and besides they are only trained to take measurements and stats and to tell you if its a boy or girl. Anything more is the doctors job. As far as this happening before with someone being told there was two, three, or four and then at the next ultra sound seeing more than the number counted before. Why yes it does. Baby's are good hiders and make themselves known when they want to be known. Have fun with the three baby's and good luck!

  18. I have heard of situations like this. Mainly with one baby and they "find" the twin later one because its hiding behind the other. Wow that had to have been a real shock!

Good Luck with the names and whatever you name them don't make them rhyme. I hate that!

  19. Yes, it happens.

The kudos go to you! To have gone 37 weeks with trips is a testament to the care you have taken of this pregnancy. Good job, and congratulations!
