What the heck is this aweful thing? A caterpillar, a mysterious creature? Part of the bean plant? A thing of wheat or alfalfa? It's 1-1/2 inches long and I found it in a can of green beans, which i had poured into a container and didn't even notice this until I already ate most of the beans!

Am I going to die or get sick from this thing?

  1. That's not a caterpillar!!! LOL!

It's a herb of some sort, probably added to give flavour to the beans.

  2. you will be fine

    I promise.

it is just a piece of plant material

  3. It's part of a plant, probably a weed, that got harvested along with the beans or was inadvertently transferred from another harvester. It won't hurt you a bit.

  4. It is a bit of some sort of grass. Eat your beans.

  5. Its a green been plant that is growing. Dont eat it or you will grow green beans in your tummy!!

  6. You won't die. But that's gross. No clue what it is.

  7. It's called "Bearded Wheat"---won't kill you. Must have been a field of it beside the bean  field.

  8. Looks like wheat tip.

You should be able to nip one of those pods from the top and bust it open, and see a seed. ( Wheat seeds are very tiny. Long and thin.)

That will give you the assurance its not an insect anyway.

  9. It looks like the tip of a bit of alfalfa.

  10. It looks pretty alien to me; Martian parasite that likes to invade human hosts via canned food perhaps? eheheheh

Naw, I'm just kidding; it's a kind of seaweed. I shall look up the name when I get a chance.

  11. I don't think it looks like a caterpillar. I'd say some sort of vegetation ... sorry I can't be of more help to you.

I saw the response saying it was bearded wheat ... I found a picture and they do look similar. It has been canned for a while so a little difference is inevitable. I think the person who said bearded wheat may be right.
