OMG does anyone else have rules in their house that they HATE?

I am a 17 year old, I'll be in college next year, and I have a bedtime. it's 8:30. how the h**l can i get my father to change it? hes soooo controlling and doesn't realize im growing up. i HATE it. Does anyone else think its unreasonable? he makes me sooooo mad.

i think that is a little harsh for a 17 year old, but the thing is, it is his house and he makes the rules. dont worry, it wont be long and you will be on your own..no rules, but lots of bills!!!!

instead of complaining talk with him, adults give you what u want if u are reasonable ask him for a few good reasons why he's doing this and come to a compromise. Ask him to let you go to sleep later for a while so he can see that you can handle it. eventually he'll realize its only right.

wow. that is out of control early for a seventeen-year-old. i'm a little younger than you and my parents will let me stay up till past midnight if i'm quiet.

8.30 is too early for a 17 year old. Sounds unreasonable. But I wish I could go to bed at 8.30 sometimes.

I agree with you. By 17 you are mature enough to go to sleep at a responsible time.  My parents have a "no water in your bedroom" rule to prevent water stains. Last week I had a glass of water that was on a place mat to prevent water stains and mom made me put it in the kitchen. When I asked why she just said, 'because I'm your mom." I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep for hours because my mouth was so dry. I feel your pain on the bright side you can move out in one year.

YEs it definitely is unreasonable. I would say talk to him ..but I'm assuming you tried right? If you haven't then I'd say do so.

Use points such as: In college does he expect you to go to bed at 8:30? Classes are still in session at some colleges around that time!

How are you supposed to go out with friends? Sporting events? Even get your homework done. There is more to life and it is way too short. And if you are a good student then throw that out there. There should be no reason for you to be going to bed so early.

I know you probably know this I'm just throwing out points you could use.

I'm 16 and I don't have a bed time at all. However, I know some people do but it is generally around 11..or at least until 10! Does he require you to go to bed this early on weekends as well?

Sounds like he is having trouble letting go and not realizing that you are growing up. Just break it to him that you are and you deserve Independence...how are you supposed to live on your own when he wont let you experience any Independence?

Well I hope it works out for you..If not well then..theres only one more year...they tend to go by pretty fast. Just make the most of it.

haha just stay up, he can't physically MAKE you go to sleep. i don't have any rule that i hate but i hate being home in the summer because my mother makes me clean all day. she hates to see me not doing anything and i'm like WTF, i'm resting up for school!

Omg that sucks but I totally get controlling parents. I'm in high school and I have to be in bed at 9:00, and all my friends tease me. Plus every single place I go my moms like "I want to call the house and make sure parents are home". Can't wait to go to college!
