've had this ODD probelm relating to photography for many years now. It would be good to get your opinion on this.

I am THE most unphotogenic person I know of. There literally hasn't been a decent photo of me since I was 5.

In every photo, I come out looking dazed or stoned. My eyes end up 3/4 closed (literally) or my mouth is open at some kind of weird goofy angle.

Everyone thinks I do it on purpose, and I usually have to explain that it's purely unintentional. This has proven to be a pain, especially in corporate photos. usually have to take 10 shots for a good one.

What IS this? I end up looking VERY different in photos. It's pretty disturbing.

  1. Maybe you just don't realize what you really look like!

Few people do!!  We are so used to seeing our REFLEXTION that actuall photo footage can be un-nerving!

To improve - stand in front of a mirror and practice facial expressions.

It may sound strange - and it will feel even stranger!! - but it can help you become more comfortable with your face.  To do this - close your eyes and make an expression you can relate to....'smiling for a photo'

then open your eyes and see what you look like.  Then readjust your face to where you feel comfortable and look agreeable.  Do this until you can make the expression you want with your eyes closed and upon opening them look the way you expected.

and if this doesn't work - start over exaggerating your expressions so at least others will be amused !!

  2. Honestly I  am in the same way but I know somebody who is totally the opposite. She isn't so pretty in reality; she looks like somebody who used cocaine for a long time but in pictures she is so different,so pretty. Well  if this makes you feel better because it makes me feel better. I rather be good looking in reality than in pictures.....

  3. My big problem is the timing of when the picture is taken.  If the picture is taken when I'm distracted, deep in thought, or concentrating, the picture has my "concentrating" face.  That is to say I look like a dog staring at a ferris wheel.

Meanwhile I've gotten pictures taken when I'm talking, or telling a story, and those end up being pretty good shots.  Honestly, that's why I tend to be far more comfortable behind the glass instead of in front of it.

  4. umm ya me. i got my hair cut a few weeks ago, and when i had blonde hair i took GREAT pics, but know that i dyed it brown my pictures are AWFUL, but its wierd cuz now i look better in person than i did before.
