My son is 16 months old and still breastfeed. I have a mole on the side of my breast, raised a little not gnarly like with a hair growing out or anything. My son is determined to scratch it off. If I move his hand away he gets hysterical, if I cover it with my hand he gets so mad he wont nurse. I can go to the Dr and get it removed but I'm afraid of it hurting. Any idea's b/c it hurts SO bad!

  1. Just like teaching them not to bite or pull hair, you can teach him not to play with it. Let him throw a fit, if he's hungry he will listen, just let him calm down and try again. Just put him down, when he is calm nurse again. It won't take but a couple of tries and he'll get the point.

  2. Sounds an awful lot like a battle of wills. Your son is causing you physical pain. I would move his hand out of the way and if he decided he didn't want to nurse anymore, so be it. That's his choice. Your choice is to teach your son from the beginning that we do not do things that hurt other people. He is not too young to understand, and you are setting limits as his mother in a caring, natural consequences way.

  3. I have one on my upper arm, and my son does the same thing while he is trying to go to sleep.  He has this obsession with it and he has to rub it and some times pick at it untill he goes to sleep.  I started saying ouch, mommy has a boo boo.  he has slowed down on it some, but still rubs it and says boo boo.

  4. put a bandaide over it while he nurses. getting it removed is not that bad. i had one removed while i was pregnant. they use local anesthetic and i had virtually no pain even after it wore off.

  5. I would say to go to a dermatologist and have it removed. There is a numbing cream available via prescription known as EMLA which will numb this before the doctor removes it. He will also use a local anesthetic for this removal as well. As for your son, use a bottle until this is removed.
