  1. Some things that helped me not shank the ball is to take a nice easy swing. You also might be pulling your head up. Or maybe you are pulling your arms in when you swing your clubs so you should look and see. One thing you might want to try is to take a half swing, which means only bring the club back half the way until you can make better contact. You will go the same distance taking a half swing too.  I can tell you what happened to me today i was pulling my golf clubs out so i was hitting the way inside of the club and not getting any distance. Then i started lining up the ball towards the tip of the club and still shot 40 because i was making excellent contact.

  2. Sorry, but if I believe this, you can tell me another. Anyone who shoots par and under has to know all there is to know about his or her basic golf swing . The player must also have heard of the " shanks " and they have people whom we call pros to remedy situations. Refer the matter to the pro.He will solve the dilemma and you get your game back.

  3. OK..... If you do not lift your right heel through impact you will NOT shank it.... not saying this is a permanent fix

  4. Started play at 9 years old and shoot sub-par huh?  Your swing should be so natural to you by now that you shouldn't be shanking all of a sudden.

In any case, here's what you can try:

You are probably either standing too close to the ball, or you are dipping your upper body forward at the bottom of your swing.  Go to the driving range, put a ball on the ground, set up like you normally would, then take a step back and do couple practice swings and remember the distance between the ball and where you club is hitting the ground, then step forward that same distance and take another swing (don't try to hit the ball, just think of it as another practice swing,)  you should not be shanking now if you produced the same swing.

By the way, Golf is one of those games that honesty is the most important merit.  You want people to give you a straight and honest answer here, then you should also be straight and honest.

  5. I used to shank a lot of balls also. For a quick fix that is pretty much guaranteed to work, put your weight on your heels. You may catch it a little thinner than you may like, but works until you can get help. But you probably just started standing too close. What works for me every time to put a palm length (end to end) between the crotch of my pants and the end of the club. This should keep you from standing too close and probably make you stop shanking.

  6. Par or better huh?  Ok....I'll tell you what you should obviously know.  A Shank is a result of a swing flaw....to cure it...you just have to visit your local pro and have him or her see what the flaw is and then and only then can you correct it.  Its pretty elementary for a sub par golfer.
