  1. How about getting her spayed?  And keep her busy.  Teach her something (tricks, a new dog sport) and take her out for walks/jogs.  It's not fair to keep her cooped up all the time.

  2. Well that's easy; the reason your dog is acting like a maniac is because she has a metric ton of pent-up energy. Being kept in a yard all day... how's she gonna use it all apart from scratching, biting and digging?

I think that the best possible way to stop this is to give her a LOT of exercise. Make sure you take her for runs regularly, and play ball games with her (this is a cheaty way to make a dog tired).

Also, muck around with her using her toys. She might take renewed interest in them, diverting attention from more... expensive options...

    Hope this helps!

  3. If she is in heat, it is probably not the best idea to be keeping her outside.

She chews and digs because she is bored.  Tire her out before she is left alone, or crate her in the backyard.

  4. I'm going to agree with the person above me who suggested keeping her indoors while she's in heat - male dogs can be extremely persistent and inventive when it comes to getting to receptive females.

For the digging, what we did with my old dog (recommended by the Humane Society dog trainer) was to put him in the house where he couldn't see what we were doing, blow up a balloon as full as we could get it, and then place it in one of the holes he'd dug and cover it lightly with dirt.  When we let him back out, he promptly tried digging in that same spot again and popped the balloon - that startled him enough that he never tried it again (if your dog is persistent, you may need to do this more than once).

The only way I can think of to keep her from trampling the plants, though, is to fence her out of them.  You could try spraying the non-toy objects she chews with pepper spray or bitter apple, but I haven't had the best luck with those.  The best things you can do to keep her from behaving like this are to 1) spay her, and 2) exercise her really, really well (throw balls for her for at least 10 minutes, twice a day) so that she'd rather sleep than get in trouble.

  5. first of let me state, Heather, you never correct a puppy or a dog way after he/she done something wrong, as they have a short term memory and wont understand why you are scolding him/her...you correct the problem while in the act..

i would look into getting a dog run to put in during the day..get a dog igloo and put inside of the dog run so she has shelter and make sure there is pleny water and food for the day...you can get them at petsmart and on line...it is the best way to keep her from distroying his flowers or plants..Make sure you put some toys in there for her to keep occupied as well..also i would reccomend that you spend some time with her as she sound like she is board..she needs alot of attention to make her happy which will help her boardness..

  6. When you find something she did, put her face in it and scold her.

When you see her doing it, take a can of rocks and shake it, or spray her with a spray bottle.

  7. Why would you leave a dog in the backyard all throughout the day? Maybe she has separation anxiety and she just wants to be with her other "pack" members. You should keep her inside your house. If you don't want her chewing up the plants, then bring her inside!! It's so simple.
