Hmmmmmm gee they must of invested a lot of money into this(obviously they dont wanna be embarassed at the London games) because like we smashed them last Olympics and we won easily in the Commonwealth games by like 44 Gold. Anyway theyr jump has been phonomenal in the past few years and yes most Australians are a bit cut over it. Hmmmm you Brits do owe some thanks to us Aussies though half of your coaches are Australian. lol

Well done the Poms. Don't take any notice of the doomsayers having a go because you got our coaches. It was the athletes who went out and won gold not the coaches.

And anyway, after beating those pommie so and so's 3 nil at soccer, I figure we've got to let them have something (tongue firmly in cheek).

our own fault, losing things we used to win. Cycling from athens to beijing...dont know what happened there, terrible swing in four years. And mens swimming has suffered too with 0 gold. Gone are the days of Thorpe, Hackett, Klim n Huegell.

yeah australia hasnt had a good olympics. it was either the youngsters were too inexperienced or the older people just couldnt do it anymore. the cycling campaign was a disaster, australia brought far too many people from 2004 to compete at 2008. we need to re focus and start all over again

Yeah I guess we realised that we NEED to invest money in order to do well instead of just whining about it like we did for years. So now the national lottery funds a LOT and that has taken 15 years to show this much improvement in the Olympics - so the only way is up!

I like Aussies. They need the competition.

Wow, just wow.  

I'm an Aussie who, until I started hearing TV presenters moaning about being beaten by GB, thought nothing but "wow, how cool, I don't think they've been so high on the medal tally for a while, good on them!".  And I still think that!  

I have some friends in the UK who say its because they've actually been investing in sports and athletes in the past decade or so so they can do well in their home-town Olympics in 2012, mainly because of the funds from a Lottery.

Any country that invests in sports deserves to reap the rewards.  The better man wins on the day, as they say!  It's just incentive for us Aussies to try and do better next time... no need to be bitter... just pat the winner on the back and get over it!

As a born and bred Aussie, I am happy to see the Poms doing well.  There is no doubt that they had to lift their act so they can be competitive in 2012. And they will be.  Remember when Australia only won one gold medal?  The Government introduced the Australian Institute of Sport, and our athletes have powered on, and have always punched well above our weight. I reckon the openning ceremoney in London will be awesome.

The pity is, that while it gives us all "warm & Fuzzies" the hospital queues are getting longer and there are more and more homeless people.  The money could be more wisely spent.

Im British and the reason we are doing so well is because of all the new talent coming through. UK athletics officials have been scouting around the country for younger athletes who are potential gold medalists in preparation for 2012

Don't forget they need the to combine three countries to beat us! Also they are only winning due to the cycling, where they poached Australian Coaches and Sports Scientist.....I could go on, but really England even with three times our population need Scotland & even Wales to be ANY good!
