my son used to slam doors, he just likes to close doors, and also walks on his toes sometimes but he has eye contact and sometimes ignores me when i call him because he doesn't want to do what i tell him but he usually responds. he is almost 17 months.

I have no doubt he has autism but he may have ADD later God forbid) because his dad did.

  1. The behavior is normal for a child your son's age. He just learned how to walk. Some kids do that.

If you are concerned, you should see your pediatrician.

  2. Have him evaluated as well.

  3. First calm down. I know how you feel!!!  My son has done all of this.  He is now five and has no problems.  At three years old his doctor said he has Autism because he repeated what she said when she asked a question.  So he was sent through a large battery of test and after a few sessions of it I called it quits my instincts told me he didn't have autism by watching other children that did.  I changed doctor and I am so glad I did.  You son sounds normal to me.  He is doing things kids his age do.  I wouldn't worry about it until he is older.  Lots of luck!!

  5. Totally normal behaviour for a 17 month old! I wouldn't worry too much. My son is 2 and still likes to slam things, bang things, hammer things.

My son ignores me too sometimes if I call his name. They're still learning boundries and limits. I've worked with children who are developmentally delayed and have had autism. I wasn't a professional, just a volunteer. I've never heard of walking on toes as a trait of autism. Now if your son used to be active and participative and now isn't, and if he seems emotionally detached and he used to be attached it would be something to look into.

I'd say enjoy your son and don't worry. This phase should pass soon. Just wait til he's 2. If every child who didn't listen was considered autistic, that would be pretty much every toddler on the planet! :-)

  6. I think that you are worrying about normal behavior.  My daughter walks around on her tip toes too.  she thinks that it is cool how you can walk on different parts of your feet.  Children what to know how things work especially boys.  Wait till he starts taking things apart to see the mechanics of things.  As for ADD and ADHD there is nothing wrong with the child.  My son is ADHD and as long as he has things to occupy him he is fine.  Yes he is medicated and what not but only for school and when he needs it in the summer.  I think you should stop trying to find something wrong with your child and enjoy him.
