So my hamster's back of the ear like its skin, has been wet lately. His eyes [fancy male hamster] has dry gunk/discharge and it looks really red like he almost can't open his eyes. I just noticed it today, and yesterday i didn't look because he never got to wake up when it was night so i went to sleep. today he was awake this morning, and maybe he just woke up from bed? i fed him some rice chex but i heard if it isn't a sugary cereal its not bad if its just a little amount. does that have to do anything with it? thanks so much !!

  1. Hmm looks like something's definitely wrong, i recommend doing quick research on the internet and go buy medicine, better yet take him/her to a VET or go ask the people at PETCO. ITS WHERE THE PETS GO.

    Gud luck

  2. I don't think the cereal did any harm.  Like everyone is saying, Go to the vet!!!  Discharge from his eyes is definitely a sign that he is sick and should be checked out.  The vet can give you some medication if he needs it.  Take care of the little guy!!

  3. Vet.

    Good Luck!

  4. ah take it to the vet

  5. maybe its something he ate give him some water and rub his tummy untill he feel better if not take he to the vet

  6. first of all feed him regular hamster food and make sure he has clean water daily. human foods are not very good for hamsters. even fruits and vegetables should not be given to them on a regular basis. you can bring your hamster to the vet. I know that sounds weird but remember doing that when my rat had a tumor. the only disease that hamsters can get that comes to mind at this moment is "wet tail" but i think that's where just the bottom area gets wet. this can be avoided by keeping the hamster's cage clean. you should probably do this too even though it probably doesn't have wet tail. if you don't feel like going to the vet then ask at a pet store. they have medications for hamsters too.

  7. I remember reading something about the gunky eyes, I think it means he's malnourished.

My hamster had a problem too when he scratched all his fur off, turns out he got mites from the wood chips, so we had to spray him with this spray and get different (better) bedding, he got better though, but Murphy passed away a couple years ago now.

    Hope it helps

  8. I don't think the cereal has to do anything about that. Take him to the vet immediately. Don't go to Petsmart or Petco. Go to an actual vet that actually know what sickness he mite have.

  9. Calm down. Just take it to the vet, and it will be fine. If the cereal wasn't sugary then its fine and that's probably not the problem.

  10. Typing on the computer will not help him - go to the VET, duh!

  11. hmmm i really dont know becuase ive never had hamsters, only mice. m,aybe you should call a vet, not like for an appointment or anything, just for an oppinion from him. he could be sick so yea.....

best of luck to the both of you ;D

yea rice chex are definitly ok.

  12. calm down and dont worry too much just take it to a vet as soon as possible. how old is your hamster it could be of old age or if u just got he could just be way too stressed out . be prepared anything could happen when u least expect it.

i hope everything will work out well.

  13. Hi! I'm sorry your hamster is sick. With dry gunk and discharge, I'm afraid it sounds like some of infection going on. In a situation like that I think your hamster will require an ointment that only a vet can prescribe.

I hope your hamster gets better soon.
