  1. I think it means that the ward is part of the problem. The problem being that one is influenced by the the environment they grow up in (schools, church, parents, friends). The various source's telling you how to act and believe, all of which differ or collide with one another. When sent to the ward one is re-programed to think in a single direction, to not think for them selves or ask questions. This makes the re-programmers happy and one follows along the trail of sheep.

  2. Talking about people who are unacceptable by societies standards being "fixed" to fit within mainstream society.

  3. My mom always said this quote when she was describing a crazy person or someone who was not acceptable by her standards. Someone who was a flake by nature. IDK is that helps. That was my intrepretation of it growing up.

  4. I know this much. The ward returns people to the grindstone. The ward is a place that repairs the damage done by society. When someone finds sanity it makes the nurse happy. Good place, good people.

P.S. Don't read too much into it.

  5. Pros: Reveals the fatal hypocrisy of societies that sacrifice individuality to maintain a facade of order.

Cons: It's hard to appreciate the allegorical "Cuckoo's Nest," when you're one of it's lifetime inmates.

The Bottom Line: A timeless classic whose greatness lies in its ability to successfully convey the tragedy and pathos of mechanized, modern society's victory over the spirit of the individual.

well cant say i can explain all this, but i hope this will help.

may be you should check Ken Kessey's site for more details he/she is the author of the famous 1975 novel that goes by that title ONE FLEW .........
