OPEX 2012 allocates Rs 46.30 million to Indian badminton – London Olympics 2012
It has recently been announced by the sports ministry of India that the amount of money it has spent on the up gradation of badminton in the country for the purpose of increasing the chances of the athletes to earn themselves medals at the upcoming London
2012 Olympic Games is Rs 46.30 million.
The bulk of the money that has been spent on the sport of badminton went to the areas of foreign exposure as well as training. Out of the total amount that had been allotted to be spent on badminton, the major portion of it was given to the area of training.
This area has been in need of special attention in order to bring the level of the Indian athletes up to the expected Olympic standards.
The money that was issued for the purpose of developing badminton in India with Olympics as the target was done under the Operation Excellence for London Olympics 2012.
OPEX 2012 is a scheme that mainly deals with the facilitation of athletes and sports in general so that performance at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games are made to improve significantly.
Out of the total number of money that was allotted to the sport of badminton, an amount of Rs 25.80 million was given to the coaching camps that were held at a national level. These training camps features a total of 38 players both from men as well as women.
However, the number of men that became part of the training camps were 24 while the participating women were 14 in all. The coaches that were allocated to these 38 athletes were 10. Not only that, the coaches were accompanied by their support staff as well
that consisted of five personnel.
The training camps have not ended yet and are expected to stay operational until the time of the Olympic Games that are scheduled to start from July 27. So far, it has been a total of 276 days that the camps have been providing training to the aspiring Indian
badminton players who want to do their country proud.
