Volleyball is not a sport that has limited itself to the higher levels rather; it has been gaining a lot of popularity in various countries at the grass root levels as well. There are numerous schools that have inculcated vigorous training programs in acknowledgement
of the interest of the younger crowds. The sport is not limited to the boys but girls too are taking part in the game enthusiastically.
Universities are not the only institutions that are witness to competitive volleyball, a lot of thrilling tournament are held at the high school level as well. A team that has been able to earn respect from its peers and fans while taking part in such tournaments
is the OPRF volleyball team.
OPRF had a match with the Riverside-Brookfield and were able to emerge as victors on Friday. Despite the fact that Riverside-Brookfield was playing with the added disadvantage of being in the home court of the Huskies, they were still able to make the score
close and give a challenge to their opponents.
By the time, that OPRF had defeated the visiting team in their home ground; the scoreboard summarised the match by displaying the following final set scores, 25-15 and 25-22.
The Huskies now cradle a total number of five defeats in this season so far. They have suffered these losses after having been able to bag a total number of 12 wins in this season overall. If the West Suburban Conference statistics of the Huskies is looked
at, it reflects one win so far. This has been registered as opposed to no loss at all in the WSC matches until this time.
The overall season statistics of Riverside-Brookfield though not as good as that of the Huskies are still something to be proud of. The number of times that the Huskies were able to tally wins in this season so far amount to be 10. They have pulled off these
victories at the expense of suffering losses that total to be five in all.
RB coach Dan Bonarigo admits that his team was weak in some key areas, specifically passing and serving. The Huskies were better than RB in both these areas. The Huskies took the advantage of the weak play of RB to make their game stronger.
RB registered a total of nine service errors that gave confidence to the Huskies and further de-motivated Riverside-Brookfield.
“I thought we were a little sloppy,” OPRF coach Don August said. “We made a few more errors than I would have liked, but we held leads in both games. RB is a good team that plays hard. [RB head coach] Dan [Bonarigo] is doing a good job with that program.”
