Question:

OSAP Question: Living with parents, but are not supporting me.?

I wish to apply for OSAP this year; I am still living with my parents, but they recently bought a new house and took out a huge mortgage, so there is no money left for tuition. How do I indicate on OSAP that they are not supporting me even though I am still living with them? I know that OSAP demands that I report the income numbers of both my parents, but that does not reflect our financial situation at all since all the money will be going towards paying off the mortgage and living expenses. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  1. The big question is: how many years have you been out of high school?  If it is less than 4 years then your parents' incomes will be used in the calculation of what they are expected to contribute to your education.

There is a review manual and if you or your parents have exceptional expenses, you can request that they be considered.  However, buying a house and having a big mortgage is not an exceptional expense.

    Sorry!

  2. financial aid and scholarship applications don't care about the quality of life you have (big car, big house, big mortgage) they care about how big your and your parents paycheck is.

    Sorry.
