OSU, UNH, UCONN or Manchester (England) for an anthropology/archaeology degree?

I want to go in archaeology or anthropology, but am not sure which schools to look into. Out of Ohio State, University of New Hampshire, University of Connecticut or the University of Manchester UK, which would you suggest? I may also consider University of Michigan, but deep down I'm really a Buckeyes fan...

Anyway, are there any other schools I should consider? I don't really care how far east or west I go, but I'd rather not go farther south than New Jersey.

  1. You're best bet is to write a list of your interests in Anthropology and archaeology, and then go to a local college library and get a copy of the American Anthropological Society's Guide to Anthropology Degree Programs.  In this book, you will find a more-or-less complete list of the faculty members at each institution and you can then match these people up with your own interests.

A school's reputation in a given field rarely takes into account the specifics of student and faculty interests.  For example, there are several schols I can name which, because of the presence of a single excellent faculty member, allow students to receive great educations in specific aspects of archaeology such as historic archaeology, Mayan archaeology or geoarchaeology.

Of the schools you mentioned, UNH and UConn have good general programs, but you're better off figuring outexactly what you want andthen looking for it than approaching the question this way.
