OT Max Starks ready for action as Pittsburgh Steelers clear PUP status – NFL News
Offensive tackle Max Starks is raring to return to action following removal from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and the player is most likely to be up for the challenge for starting position.
Max returned to the field after two weeks’ miss of training with a knee injury last week and it was expected that the team would review the PUP list to reactivate the OT. With the confirmation of his availability now, Steelers are expecting him to face the
competition for the starting role.
It is nevertheless a good development for the player as a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) had threatened his immediate pro prospects. After missing the offseason programme of the team, the player also skipped initial two weeks of the camp.
Last week, he spoke of ambitions for an early comeback, which is now facilitated by the removal from the PUP list. It is not clear if he is going to be taken into the squad for Steelers next home game against the Indianapolis Colts on 19th of
this month.
Both, the player's agent and Steelers, have confirmed his availability at training camp, which has re-opened after the preseason opener. The development is a timely one for the team given a number of their players are on the PUP list with respective injuries.
Coach Mike Tomlin said that all the injured players’ status is reviewed on a weekly basis. The official refused to give a timeline about return of any of them.
Steelers meanwhile have released running back John Clay, who apparently suffered a serious injury blow during practice on past Sunday. He was taken on the sidelines first and then to locker room on a cart and from the condition he appeared set to be out
for rest of the season.
To fill Clay’s position on the roster, Steelers said they have signed running back Jason Ford. He is former Illinois player. Terms of his deal have not been disclosed by any of the stakeholders. The player is expected to join the squad at training camp this
week.
