OT Mike Otto back to Tennessee as Titans look to consolidate squad depth thru re-signing of players, - NFL News
A couple of days after Tennessee Titans' general manager, Ruston Webster, ruled out the possibility of singing the most talked-about quarterback, Peyton Manning, the team management started working on strengthening their squad by bringing back their players
off free agency.
Apparently, the team has started with their offensive department by agreeing to terms of a multiyear deal with the offensive tackle, Mike Otto, who along with 16 other players moved to the free agency.
Otto was drafted into Titans in 2007, and after having played for them for all those seasons in the past, went to the free agency in March 2011, missing out the entire 2011 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
His signing is expected to be followed by more Titans' players being brought back from the free agency as the team management looks to consolidate its squad strength at a number of positions.
After having finished a season earlier with a dismal record, Titans improved during the past season with an overall record of 9-7 (nine wins and seven losses) and were unlucky to have missed the chance of playing the second round of the league due to an
unexpected change of positions on the points table.
Tennessee, recently, was hit by an advertising campaign launched by local fans who were asking for homecoming of Colts' quarterback, Peyton Manning.
Manning has played college league in Tennessee and following recent talks around him possibly being released by his team, Titans' fans want the QB to come back to Tennessee to play professional league for their side.
Titans’ management has ruled out the possibility of them being interested in pursuing the signing of the player, if he is made available through free agency, saying their attack was in good hands.
Their quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck and rookie, Jake Locker, are good enough to bolster their squad performance.
Moving a step further, the management has started bringing back their free agency players to create more depth in their line-up. It is their offence that they have started with in their consolidation drive.
Following Otto’s re-signing, Titans' managers said that they would look to bring back more players off free agency as and when they feel a need and find room for further consolidation of their line-up.
The team seems to not have any issue with the players' salary caps and their roster is likely to allow them to pursue additional re-signing of players.
Titans have not introduced any other major changes into their line-up, or at the management level, given the fact that the franchise’s owner and managers are happy with their performance last season.
It was the first year of their coach, Mike Munchak, and his performance more or less is considered to be satisfactory.
