Oakland Athletics' manager Bob Melvin shows optimism on strong outfield – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics' manager Bob Melvin is showing optimism regarding their crowded outfield. Melvin’s roster showed decent improvement in 2012 Major League Baseball season and proved their valour.
It was Melvin’s great strategy which bought glory to Athletics with good wins during the whole 2012 Major League Baseball season.
“I think the at-bats are there for all of them to get 400, 450 at-bats, It's just a matter of finding the right time, the right spot, and potentially allowing for injury, too. It does look like we're a little full in those positions,” Melvin said in his media session Monday at the Winter Meetings.
He added, "We do have the DH spot that we can rotate these guys through. It gives us the option to rest some guys a little bit more, whether it's Yoenis, who was a little bit run down at the end, and we can rest Coco a little bit."
A recent initiative of Athletics to keep all of his starting rotation is also appreciative. Last season’s rotation played extraordinary and proved that they were one of the best in the leading teams.
Regarding outfielders, the A’s are now confident to give them more responsibility. Last season Josh Reddick, Yoenis Cespedes, Coco Crisp, Chris Young and Seth Smith’s performance made Athletics very competitive.
They all performed with big heart and hammered their opposing pitchers with great force. Reddick with three year’s experience, showed his class. He finished with .242 hitting average along with 32 home-runs, 85 RBIs and .305 OBP.
Cespedes started with the Athletics as rookie and finished the season on a high note. He averaged at .292 along with 23 home-runs, 82 RBIs and .356 OBP.
Centre fielder Chris Young showed his valour on the plate as he went with .231 at hitting average along with 14 homers, 41 RBIs and .311 OBP.
Left fielder Seth Smith also did his job well and finished with .240 hitting average along with 14 home-runs, 52 RBIs and .333 OBP.
Experts believe that the way Athletics' outfield performed last season, there is a good chance that they will repeat their tremendous performance once again in the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
