Oakland Athletics’ all set for outfielder Manny Ramirez – MLB News
The Oakland Athletics’ management is all set for Manny Ramirez’s return to Major League Baseball as his 50-game suspension due to PED is about to lift in almost three weeks’ time.
The former Cleveland Indians’ star Ramirez was banned by the MLB authorities when his several tests came positive regarding Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) last season.
Though he was retired from the game after this judgement, but this summer he decided to return on the field with different team as he signed with Oakland Athletics.
Ramirez, who is highly talented and hugely experienced individual, has played with almost five different franchises in the past.
Starting from his career from the Cleveland Indians plat-form, he went on to play for the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox.
The A’s manager Bob Melvin is also happy as Ramirez soon will be joining the team which at the moment needs his presence badly. The A’s are not performing well and with the presence of Ramirez, the A’s inexperienced roster will certainly learn many positive
things from him.
"He knows where he is in his career," Melvin said. "And he knows the effect he can have on young guys."
Explaining further, Melvin stated many aspects of his game. He added on Ramirez’s return that, “We've got to get there first. DH has been his role and that's what we envision him doing, we'll have to see what we'll do, roster-wise."
Ramirez, with 19- year Major League experience, is sitting with well balanced with career .312 hitting average along with 555 home runs, 1831 RBIs and .411 OBP.
His star studded calibre will most certainly give the A’s more confidence and now their chances are also high to qualify into the post season.
In the meanwhile, despite Ramirez is coming, the A’s manager is still looking ways to improve the current situation of team’s lineup. He recently said "We're always looking to get the best possible lineup up there on a particular day, [Weeks] has been grinding
pretty hard at the plate, I think a couple of days off might serve him well. With Coco [Crisp] and Weeks both out of there, somebody has to hit up there,"
Though Bob is talking about shuffling the current lineup, but experts say that these recent measures are just for making room in the roster for Ramirez.
