Oakland Athletics beat Boston Red Sox 5-3 to level series 1-1 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-3 on Tuesday, May 1 at Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts and levelled the three-match regular series 1-1 whereas the next decisive game will be played on Wednesday, May 2 on Boston’s home field.
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Jarrod Parker stole the show by pitching wonderful six innings and never allowed any Red Sox’s hitter to take any kind of advantage.
Red Sox not only seemed powerless against parker, but they also never felt comfortable against rest of the A’s pitchers including Brian Fuentes, Ryan Cook and Jordan Norberto.
Parker said after the game, “It's pretty cool, I don't think it will set in until maybe tomorrow or when I'm fielding phone calls later tonight. I don't think we threw more than five or six breaking balls. Just going at guys moving the ball in and out was effective tonight.”
Later, Oakland manager Bob Melvin also stated in the media for Parker’s great pitching. He said, “As long as he throws the ball over the plate with his stuff, he's going to have some success, I don't want to say you worry, but you really want to see how a young pitcher like that handles his first time at Fenway Park and he handled it beautifully."
Parker received only four hits in just over six innings and gave only one run.
The Athletics came into this game with huge optimism. They had in mind of last defeat which they suffered 11-6 on Monday, April 30.
In short time, the A’s made five runs and switched their defensive button ON while the Red Sox on the other hand, never tried to decrease the bigger gap except adding two runs in the ninth innings.
In the meanwhile, with this particular win, the Athletics now have a fair chance to get back into the momentum and play like title contenders.
The 2012 Major League Baseball season is still giving them some surprises, but it has been observed that the A’s are going into right direction and if these kinds of performances remained continued, more positive results will be coming in the near future.
