Oakland Athletics beat Seattle Mariners 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, June 27 at Safeco Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Rookie Jarrod Parker proved unplayable for the dire Mariners’ batting line-up as he tossed solid seven innings and gave only one run. He received three hits along with a homer but still managed to retire nine Mariners’ hitters.
“I try to go into every game and give up one per three, and I think that's pretty good, to cut the game in thirds, That's what I've been taught to do, and if you're giving up one run per three in this game, that's pretty good. It simplifies it a little bit." Parker said after the game and told the reporters about his tremendous outing.
"He's good, We're very pleased with what he's doing, Did we expect him to be able to pitch games like this? Absolutely. We traded a prominent All-Star who is under control and young for that. Shows you what we think of him," A’s manager Bob Melvin said of Parker.
On the other hand, despite playing well, Kevin Millwood could not save the game for the Mariners. He pitched 2.2 innings and received only one hit and one run. His ERA remained also persistent but the real damage was done by the Mariners’ batting prowess which just could not get the right areas to hit.
Though the Mariners levelled the score early in the second innings but the A’s were more determined as they made another run in the bottom of the seventh and eventually won the game in style.
In the meanwhile, now the contest between these two inter-division teams has gotten more interesting.
Oakland is ahead one place in the American League West Division while the Mariners are at the bottom in the same League and Division.
The Athletics at the moment are sitting comfortably in third position with 37-39 win-loss record along with a .487 winning percentage in the overall standing of AL Central. The Mariners are behind them in fourth position with 32-45 win-loss and .416 winning percentage.
