Oakland Athletics continue their fairy run, beat Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics continued their fairy run as they outclassed Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Tuesday, May 8 in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Brandon Inge continued to impress the skipper as he played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Former Tigers’ third baseman, Inge has given some incredible performances for Oakland since leaving the Tigers last month. With the score tied at
3-3 in the ninth, anything was possible. Inge rose to the occasion as he homered to left to win the game for his team.
"I'm so happy here right now," Inge said. "I fit in. It's a new start for me. I welcomed it. I know we have a young ballclub, but they can play. I'm honored to be a part of this ballclub and trying to help them win. That's what feels the best."
"He's just a gamer," said shortstop Cliff Pennington after driving in the tying single in the ninth. "He's a guy it doesn't matter what he's done all game long. In that situation, that's who you want up. What he brings to the table defensively is something
else."
Oakland looked in top form in their previous three match series against Tampa Bay Rays. After losing the opening game of that series, the Athletics fought back brilliantly to surprise the leading American League Tampa Bay. With momentum on their side, they
continued to play their aggressive brand of baseball and converted most of the scoring opportunities to stun the Blue Jays.
With their win over the Blue Jays on Tuesday evening, the Athletics also improved their record to 16-14 and it will be interesting to see if they can give similar results in the finale to send a strong message across the league.
The Blue Jays are also 16-14 but they were outclassed by Los Angeles Angels in a four game serious previously. Toronto won the opening two games quite comprehensively but the Angels made them run for their money in the final two games to level the series.
