Oakland Athletics could sign Japanese veteran Hiroyuki Nakajima – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics’ management is currently not discussing publically regarding their potential needs to install a good shortstop for next Major League Baseball season.
Athletics' general manager Billy Beane has recently attended 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings where he also kept his silence about team’s potential game plan for the upcoming Major League outing. He also did not comment when a couple of reporters asked him some crucial questions about any trade or new signing.
However, now reports are coming in the media that Beane has been giving an impression to sign some of the current free agents especially shortstop free agents.
According to a reliable source, the Athletics are showing their interest in Japanese star and veteran shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima. He is currently playing with Seibu Lions / Saitama Seibu Lions in Japan.
"You want to get the best player you can -- it's a critical position, You have a chance to significantly improve your club if you get the right guy (at shortstop)," Athletics' general manager Beane said.
“We've talked about him, We do know quite a bit about him. I'm sure there will probably be quite a few suitors," manager Bob Melvin said in the media as he told reporters about the developing talks with Japanese star.
Earlier this year, the Japanese star also linked with New York Yankees but with some official issues, he could sign with them and now once again drawing attention from a Major League franchise.
"We unfortunately could not come to an agreement with Hiroyuki, We wish him the best of luck during the upcoming 2012 season," New York Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman said in a statement released by the club as he explained about Nakajima’s status.
Along with Nakajima, the Athletics are also showing interest for Miami Marlins' shortstop Yunel Escobar. Though still there is no information that who will be making his way into the Athletics’ roster, but experts believe that both players have high chance to come play in Oakland. Both highly talented individuals and possess large experience which will certainly benefit the Oakland Athletics in the coming days.
