Oakland Athletics crush Minnesota Twins 5-1 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics crushed the Minnesota Twins 5-1 in the last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 22 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
Athletics’ entire side played aggressive from the start of the game and won in the end with ease.
A’s experienced batters took an early lead and maintained their focus during the entire game. They never gave any chance to the Twins' pitchers or hitters to take advantage.
Starter Tommy Milone pitched eight innings and received two hits and one run. He struck-out five and maintained his 3.87 ERA with complete precision. He stood tall against the Twins' big hitters and held them with great force.
Relief pitcher Ryan Cook also did well on the mound and pitched with great consistency at 2.58 ERA. He received one hit and struck-out three in his one inning spell.
Along with pitchers, the Athletics’ hitters also showed their valour when they proved too good for the Twins’ dire offence.
Not only Twins’ offence was ineffective but their defence also could not stop the A’s heavy hammering which eventually resulted in defeat.
Centre fielder Coco Crisp played well for A’s as he scored three runs and smashed three hits including two RBIs on his consistent .401 slugging percentage.
"I felt like Cal Ripken over there with so many batting stances," Crisp said.
"Typically, you don't win games making four errors, The reason we did come back is Milone. When Coco plays well, we win," manager Bob Melvin said.
Right fielder Josh Reddick also did well and scored a RBI on his three at-bats. He also remained calm on the plate and maintained his .484 ERA.
On the other hand, Twins' starter Liam Hendricks allowed four runs and received six hits which ultimately proved disastrous for his team as they were defeated by a decent margin.
"I wasn't given a lead and trying to blow it, We had some good at bats against Milone. It was just one of those days where I had to keep us in the game. It's unfortunate I only went five," Hendriks said.
Later Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire said, "Milone did the rest. He shut us down and went deep into the game."
Hendricks pitched five innings and could not maintain his ERA which rose to 7.06.
