Oakland Athletics crushed by Kansas City Royals 0-5 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics were crushed by Kansas City Royals 0-5 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, August 14 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Royals played well and earned a decent win in the end. They played combined and kept the Athletics under pressure which proved fruitful for them.
Royals’ upfront offence showed their valour and never gave any chance to the Athletics.
"I just felt along with Dayton (Moore, general manager), three or four starts and that would get him back on track," Royals' manager Ned Yost said with detail about his team’s performance.
Starter Jeremy Guthrie pitched well and saved the game for his team. He pitched seven innings and received only three hits without any run. He retired eight batters on 4.02 ERA.
Along with Guthrie, relief pitcher Tim Collins also supported him well with one inning. He retired three and his ERA remained consistent at 2.95.
"When I pitched against them earlier in the year every pitch I threw was the exact wrong pitch at the wrong time, So I had a nice blueprint on what not to do. I threw too many duplicate pitches of what they punished me. I gave up an awful lot of hits and an awful lot of long home runs in a short amount of time. They gave me a blueprint on how to do a better job," Guthrie said with confidence.
Closer Greg Holland remained consistent with his 3.28 ERA while he retired one batter.
On the other hand, the Athletics pitched tremendously and earned a great victory in the end.
Starter Jarrod Parker pitched 4.2 innings and played beautifully for his team. He allowed five runs and five hits on his 3.71 ERA.
Relief pitcher Jordan Norberto also played well and earned a great victory for his team. He stayed calm on the mound and earned a great victory in the end.
Alex Gordon played well with his one run and one hit on his slugging percentage of .447.
Salvador Perez also scored a run and maintained his slugging percentage .533.
