Oakland Athletics crushed by Toronto Blue Jays 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics crushed by the Toronto Blue Jays 1-3 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 4 at O.co Coliseum in in Oakland.
Athletics’ had won two previous games but lost this one due to their poor improvisation on the mound and on the plate at the same time by their senior players.
Toronto manager John Farrell said, "We earned that one, It's been a while since we shook hands after a game. Oddly enough, we had to play another extra-inning game to do it. We took some calculated chances and gambled on a few pitches, That last inning we rolled the dice, trying to make something happen."
Though A’s first four pitchers played well and never allowed any run but later their pitchers literally spoiled the whole play and could not save the game for their side.
"You're not going to win all those games, yet you expect to, we didn't come through this time," A's manager Bob Melvin said on his team’s defeat.
Relief pitcher Ryan Cook and closer Jerry Blevins together gave three crucial runs at very decisive point of play which proved disastrous in the end for the Athletics.
Cook pitched one inning and allowed one run, one hit, one homer and one earned run on his 2.47 ERA. His pitching was so way-ward that he could not even retire a single hitter in his throwing spell.
Closer Blevins tossed 2.0 innings and allowed two runs, four hits and two earned runs. He struck-out three batters as his ERA remained at 2.45.
On the other hand, Blue Jays’ starter Ricky Romero played exceptionally well and proved one of the winning factors for his team. He stood tall against the A’s top offence and proved his valour.
"It comes down to trusting my fastball, Everything else works on that. When I am able to control my fastball, the game comes to me instead of me falling behind," Romero said.
Romero pitched seven innings and allowed only one run and three hits. He also received only one earned run and retired five A’s batters.
