A’s batting and pitching line-up showed great temperament and rattled the Tigers’ offence with great energy.
The Tigers’ on the other hand, went into the game with full confidence as they knew if they remained consistent in pitching and batting departments, they would oust the Athletics by a big margin. However, that was not the case when their pitchers started to throw. Athletics' batters kept them under pressure and won a great victory in the end.
"We always feel good about when he takes the mound, We monitored him closely as far as his bullpen [sessions] went. He goes very hard after his bullpen, so we felt confident that he was simulating that enough to go out there and pitch accordingly in a game. I don't know how you could expect more than we got out of him tonight," manager Bob Melvin said after the game and explained in the media.
Melvin added, "There was a long discussion with him, because he wasn't aware that there was a pitch count with him, Earlier in the game I don't think he felt as good as he did later in the game.”
Brett Anderson did well for the Athletics. He pitched six solid innings and received only two hits. He struck-out six while he remained consistent on the mound.
On the other hand, the Tigers' starter Anibal Sanchez pitched 6.1 innings and received two runs and five hits along with a homer. He could have played much better but overall the Athletics’ batters did very well and won in the end.
