Oakland Athletics defeat Texas Rangers 5-4 – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics defeat the Texas Rangers 5-4 in the second game of their two-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 17 at Rangers Ballpark, Arlington in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The first game was won by the Rangers 4-1 while now the series has ended with 1-1.
Starter Brandon McCarthy went with eight hits, four runs, four earned runs and two homers in his over five innings for the Athletics and received much appreciation from his team.
"I threw the ball to third. Then he said I trapped it. I said, 'What?' and sort of flew off the handle," McCarthy said. "I was pretty furious once the disbelief set in."
Overall his performance remained good, but his pitching however, was too waivered on which the Rangers tried to get little advantage.
On the other hand, A’s opposing starter Matt Harrison proved amazing for the Rangers as well. He held the A’s offensive batting lineup with quite diligently going with eight hits, three runs, three earned runs and struck out three.
The Rangers’ closer Mike Adams however, gave a crucial run in 10th to designated hitter Kila Ka'aihue which certainly proved the winning factor for the Oakland Athletics in the end.
"That was a huge momentum swing," A’s manager Bob Melvin said. "They have the lead, with guys who have had a lot of success in the bullpen. It was a huge pick-me-up for us."
Oakland took the early three-run lead in the very first inning and put the Rangers’ in pressure. Though the Rangers were coming into this game with a win, but still they never looked comfortable at plate.
However, even with the slow start, the Rangers did bounce back in the bottom fourth with a clear one run’s deficit.
Later in the sixth, they again rallied past the A’s pitching offence with the addition of two more runs and strengthened their one run lead.
On the other hand, the A’s right fielder Josh Reddick smashed a superb homer and levelled the score 4-4 while as soon as the game went into extra 10th inning, the A’s batters stood tall against the Rangers dire defence and won in style.
