Oakland Athletics defeated by Boston Red Sox 6-9 – MLB Recap
Oakland Athletics defeated by Boston Red Sox 6-9 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, April 22 at Fenway Park in Boston.
Red Sox entire roster played wonderfully and won the game in style. They dominated throughout the game and never gave any advantage to Athletics.
“I've been feeling good on the road, too, but I just love hitting here, You've got the wall right there and you can get away with some stuff that you don't necessarily have to hit it so good. Sometimes you can hit a pop fly that would be an out at some other
parks and it goes off the wall," Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli said who played a key role in his team’s win.
Later Boston manager John Farrell said, “The last 10 days his swing has been so compact, We're 19 games into the season and he's got 25 RBIs, that's what we were hoping he'd be able to do."
On the other hand, the Athletics could not play their natural game defeated by the Red Sox. Starting pitcher A.J. Griffin started the game for the Athletics. He pitched four innings and allowed nine runs and eight hits. He was also hammered with two home
runs on his blistering high 4.50 ERA.
On the other hand, the Red Sox pitchers certainly played well and showed great resilience. Felix Doubront pitched 6.2 innings and received three runs and three hits. He struck out eight while his ERA remained consistent at 4.32.
Relief pitchers Clayton Mortensen pitched 0.2 innings and allowed three runs and two hits. Though Clayton’s pitching was quite ordinary but still Red Sox managed to save the game for the Athletics.
Along with pitchers, the Red Sox hitters also played well and literally played a key role in winning the game for Boston side.
First baseman Mike Napoli scored two runs on two hits. He ran for five RBIs and maintained his .570 slugging percentage on his four at bats. His hitting was certainly exceptional as he truly paved the ground for Red Sox’s great win.
