Oakland Athletics edge New York Yankees 5-4 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics edge past the New York Yankees 5-4 in the final and fourth game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 22 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
Athletics played aggressive and earned a great victory against the Yankees. Not only did this game prove wonderful for the A’s but overall the series was a morale boosting experience for them.
They outclassed the Yankees in all four games and silenced every critic who doubted their abilities for a potential post-season spot.
A's manager Bob Melvin said on his team’s performance, "It just felt like if we get a guy to second base and have the right hitter up there, like we did with Coco today, that something good would happen, When I saw [Weeks' bunt], now we're at second base, it kind of dawned on me."
The second half of the season is already proving a great blessing for the A’s as they showed some brilliant performances since they have entered after the All Star break.
After playing poorly in the first half, the A’s, so far, have defeated Minnesota Twins along with Texas Rangers and New York Yankees by big margins.
In all nine games which they have played, the Athletics have lost only one and are now looking forward to a wonderful run towards a potential playoff spot.
On the other hand, the Yankees, who are considered to be one of the strongest teams in the Major League are certainly struggling with all areas of play and not performing well.
Yankees’ shortstop and skipper Derek Jeter said on his team’s overall poor performance, "It's tough. It's tough to lose four games regardless of how it looks, You know, we were playing pretty good coming in here. Those guys have been playing good. They beat us four games, that's all you can say. They've been playing well, they continue to play well,"
In Sunday’s game, their experienced players disappointed and did not play their natural game. They looked tired in the field and could not just match the Athletics brilliance and lost in the end.
Oakland will be happy with their performance as they managed to get their offence going to beat the mighty Yankees. It will be interesting to see how far the Athletics can carry their winning momentum forward.
