Oakland Athletics edge New York Yankees 5-4 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics edge past the New York Yankees 5-4 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 23 at Yankee Stadium in New York.
"Rarely do you lose a game like you did last night, and I think coming back from something like that and scoring early in the game showed some fight right away, It was a big game, Terrific, Our bullpen came up huge for us today," A's manager Bob Melvin said about his team’s performance.
Athletics’ played offensive and won in style. They played as one unit and never let the Yankees dominate them during the entire game.
"We control what happens, We play how we're capable of, we win our games. We really don't have to look at the scoreboard," Yankees’ Derek Jeter also said later in the game.
Athletics’ batters and pitchers played beautifully and rattled the Yankees with a narrow margin.
Stephen Drew batted four times and added one run and smashed one hit as he maintained his slugging percentage at .389.
Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes also did well on the mound as he ran for an RBI on his five at-bats. He kept the Yankees’ pitchers under pressure and maintained his slugging percentage at .489.
Third baseman Josh Donaldson scored two runs and hammered two hits on his four at-bats. He played aggressive and proved one of the winning factors for the Athletics.
Second baseman Cliff Pennington scored two runs and three hits along with three RBIs on his four at-bats. He stood tall against the Yankees’ pitchers and maintained his .319 slugging percentage.
"To lose two games in extra innings is tough, especially when these games mean so much, It was really still just another game, but it was a big one," Pennington said.
Along with batters, the Athletics' pitchers also did well on the plate and earned a great victory.
A.J. Griffin pitched 4.1 solid innings and allowed four runs and seven hits. Though he was hit with a home-run but he was able to strike-out four on his 2.80 ERA.
