Oakland Athletics edge Seattle Mariners 1-0 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics edge past Seattle Mariners 1-0 in the first game of their three match-regular series encounter on Monday, June 25 at Safeco Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The A’s played combined and never gave any chance to their opponents to take control of the game at any point. Instead they kept them under pressure and took the game away with a narrow margin.
This is a healthy sign for Oakland that they are playing with such aggression. This particular win was their second straight while the A’s entire roster is also confident of winning this particular series against the Mariners.
Mariners, on the other hand, did not play well and could not save the game. For Seattle, this game was also important. They needed a welcome win after losing to the San Diego Padres 2-1 in their recent series.
However, not only they lost this game, but they also continued their poor run towards post season qualification as now their chances are even less with a dismal 31-44 win-loss record.
In Monday’s game, though it was played at a high pace, but still the A’s pitching offence led past the Mariners with some decent comprehensiveness.
Tommy Milone pitched tremendously and literally hand-cuffed the Mariners. He tossed seven innings and received seven hits without any run. He also struck-out five batters and maintained his 3.83 ERA.
"I'm out there trying to win games. That's what I'm trying to do, I have expectations for myself, obviously, that is to win games. That's why I'm here. I felt today that Zuk (catcher Kurt Suzuki) could have called any pitch and I would have thrown it in
that spot, That's the kind of game I felt I threw." Milone said
Later A’s catcher Kurt Suzuki also praised Milone’s pitching with great words. He said, "That's how I felt, That's what I said he'd do in spring training. He's a guy who can throw the ball wherever he wants whenever he wants. That's what he did tonight.
I love what he brings.”
According to several experts, both teams and especially Oakland Athletics have a fair chance to play in the playoffs. However, it is also important to mention here that at the moment the A’s are relying on their senior players’ performance while in order
to play in the next round, they must unleash their young and inexperienced players to reach the desired goals as well.
