Oakland Athletics edge past Kansas City Royals 4-3 – MLB news
Oakland Athletics edge past 4-3 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, May 19 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
The Athletics played as one unit and defeated the Royals with quite ease. Their batters and pitchers showed great temperament and won third consecutive game.
“I would rather see us win by 10 runs ... but it makes for a little bit more excitement, certainly at the end, What it does for me more than anything is it shows some tenacity that when you get down, you don't worry about it,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin
said.
Though the Royals took early lead in the third inning but still the Athletics were able to sneak past them with one run advantage.
“I kind of hesitated, pulled up and it took one of those sharp hops and just got by me on the top of my glove,” David Lough said.
Starter A.J. Griffin pitched first six innings of the game for the Athletics and received seven hits. He allowed three runs and three earned runs on 3.59 ERA. He struck out five and proved one of the winning factors for the Athletics.
“Any time you can get three wins and sweep team that's playing pretty decent baseball, it doesn't really matter how you do it, It's definitely a plus for us,” Derek Norris said.
Along with pitchers, the Athletics batting line-up also played wonderfully and showed the Royals their true offensive class. Athletics upfront hitters hammered the Royals’ pitchers with great force and won the game in great style.
Designated hitter Coco Crisp ran for one RBI on his .500 slugging percentage. Later centre fielder Yoenis Cespedes also did very well on the plate as he scored two runs on two hits. He also ran for an RBI and played much offensive to achieve .442 slugging
percentage.
On the other hand, the Royals seemed too tired as they approached the Athletics’ home field. Their batters and pitchers did not perform well and lost the game in bitter manner.
Starter Luis Mendoza pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. He allowed two earned runs as his ERA rose to blistering high 5.50.
