Oakland Athletics edge past Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics edge past the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 19 at O.co Coliseum in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The A’s played well and kept the Dodgers’ under pressure and never allowed them to score even a single run in nine innings.
Starter Brandon McCarthy tossed seven scoreless innings and helped the A’s to get the early advantage in the series.
"After the first couple innings I kind of got back feeling normal, Early, amped up and kind of short of breath. I don't know what was going on. That felt kind of weird, which really hasn't happened this year." McCarthy said.
Later A's manager Bob Melvin said, "I don't know how he does it, with 11 days off and his routine being messed up some, It was impressive."
Overall the A’s batting lineup also performed a healthy role in their team’s win. Seth Smith and Jonny Gomez each scored a RBI which proved one of the winning factors for the Athletics.
Coco Crisp on the other hand, stole three bases and earned his season best performance.
"This is a team anybody in Northern California doesn't particularly care for," Melvin said.
Dodgers’ starter Aaron Harang however, could not save the game for his team. He looked tired on the mound and tossed just 3.2 innings. But those 3.2 innings virtually proved lethal for the Dodgers. He received three hits and three runs along with three earned
runs as well.
"Things weren't right, and they were being patient and fouling off good pitches, racking up my pitch count. Of course the walks didn't help," said Harang.
In the meanwhile, despite this particular defeat, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still sitting on top in the National League West with 42-26 along with winning percentage of .618.
The A’s however, are at third in the American League West with 32-36 win-loss record and .471 winning percentage.
Though they are playing well lately, but in order to achieve post season qualification, the A’s still need to improve their winning percentage to .500.
