Oakland Athletics edge past New York Yankees 5-4 – MLB
Oakland Athletics edge past the New York Yankees 5-4 in third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter at Yankees Stadium in New York.
The Athletics entire roster played wonderfully during the entire and won in style. They showed good commitment in the field and never let the Yankees dominate at any stage of the game.
“Trust me, I know it's 6 for 12 and two homers sitting right behind him, but in this ballpark and the way Cano is swinging, it was a better option for me,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin.
“I've been through so many unnerving ninths, either here in the other ballpark, that I know you literally have to play 27 outs and three strikes on the last out to get a win here, I just didn't want him out there and a couple more guys get on, Blevins has
been so good for us in those situations," Melvin added.
With this tremendous win, the Athletics also won the three-match series 2-1. They won the very first game of the series and with this win; they won the series giving a clear signal to oppositions that Athletics will not tolerate any loose play from any Major
League franchise.
"We had chances in the eighth and the ninth," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
The Athletics upfront batting lineup played very well and handled the opposition with great offensive force. They played the Yankees entire pitching lineup with great strategy and never let take advantage of the situation.
Along with good batting lineup, the Athletics pitchers also showed that they came to New York just for winning the series.
They all pitched in right areas and rattled all the Yankees batters. From starter to closer, the Athletics did really well on the mound and proved too good for the Yankees.
Starter Dan Straily pitched 5.1 innings and received three runs and four hits. He struck out four and remained confident on his 5.94 ERA.
Relief pitcher Jerry Blevins pitched 0.2 innings and allowed only one on two hits. He struck one Yankees batter but he remained confident on his 2.00 ERA.
