Oakland Athletics expected to sign Manny Ramirez before Spring Training, say sources
Lately some inside Major League Baseball sources are speculating in the media that Oakland Athletics are likely to sign former Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox star slugger Manny Ramirez before Spring Training in order to strengthen their 40-man roster.
This was also somewhat confirmed by the Athletics' centre-fielder Coco Crisp when he spoke to the media and told them about Ramirez and his playing approach as to why he is such a sought-after player in the League.
Crisp said, “I like him, He’s a great teammate, he’s cool, he works hard, he’s just eccentric. He’s different. All of the great players are quirky in one way or another. Manny is an awesome person, nothing but pleasant and fun, but the negative stuff always captures people’s attention more than the positive things. I think the positive outweighs the negative.”
Crisp also commented to the media on Ramirez’s arrival in the Athletics’ roster as he himself might lose infield position for him. He said, “I'm going to make all the plays, if someone feels there's someone better than me, it's hard for me to believe. Unless he's a demigod come down from the heavens, no one is going to outshine me in center field."
Ramirez, currently a free agent, is making a potential comeback in the MLB after taking retirement last year. His drug allegations made him take that decision otherwise he had to face a 100-game ban. Now he has been reinstated by the Major League authorities this offseason but he is also planning a new beginning with the Oakland Athletics.
Before listening to Athletics’ potential offer, some other top level MLB teams have also persuaded him to play for their respective franchises but he and his agent eventually convinced to play for the Athletics next season. Baseball experts say that Ramirez’s arrival in the Athletics’ roster is a healthy sign and he will as a whole benefit the franchise next season. No one knows as to what kind of deal Ramirez is coming in the Athletics’ team but it is pretty sure that his contract will include some extra financial perks.
