Oakland Athletics floor American League West leaders Texas Rangers 7-1 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics floored American League West leaders Texas Rangers 7-1 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Thursday, June 7 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The A’s once again outclassed their rivals in all departments of the game. The four game series between the two sides have brought about some unexpected results. Considering Rangers’ win-loss record, they were the favourites to win the series but the Athletics
used their home conditions to great effect to win three out of four games.
In some ways, the series victory will be of great importance for Oakland who are at the bottom of AL East standings table. The win can provide them with much needed self belief and it will be interesting to see if they can continue their stunning form to
move past the .500 win percentage mark before the All Star Break.
"To be able to take three out of four, with the struggles that we've seen here recently is a big lift," Oakland’s manager Bob Melvin said in a post game interview. "Offensively we did some good things this series, certainly pitching and our defense has been
really good too. We played all facets this series. You have to play that way to beat a team like that three out of four and we did."
Seth Smith provided the A’s with a perfect start, earning an RBI single to centre in the first inning of the match. Coco Crisp also made the most of on hand opportunities in batting department of the game, hitting a home run to right in the third to double
Oakland’s advantage to 2-0.
Crisp tripled to deep right in the fourth inning to extend Oakland’s lead to 6-1 and Brandon Moss homered to right in the seventh to force the Rangers completely out of the game.
Adrian Beltre scored the only run for the Rangers in the fourth inning. Texas’ starting pitcher Yu Darvish took his fourth loss of the season after allowing six runs, six hits and six walks in just over five inning.
