Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane busy making offseason moves – MLB Update
When in 2012 Major League Baseball season, the Oakland Athletics clinched the American League West Division by overall 94-68 win-loss record, no one believed that a team with less financial resources and with less experienced players could have achieved this huge task, but as they saw Billy Beane, the A’s general manager, working hard to improve every aspect of franchise’s game, they started believing on Athletics’ extraordinary accomplishment.
It is true that Beane worked day and night to improve his team’s overall performance in the league in which some of the leading franchises always had made it through into the postseason every season. However, under Beane, the Athletics progressed with rapid pace and showed all the top MLB teams that his extraordinary managerial skills.
Showing a great performance last season, the Athletics’ once again, under Billy Beane’s watchful eyes, are giving all the teams a clearer signal that they will be coming in the next season with more thrust.
Beane is on the other hand, is also busy making some offseason moves for the Athletics. He recently attended 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in Nashville and hoped for a good next season.
Trading some existing players and signings new ones are also making Beane slight busy in this offseason. Currently he wants to solve shortstop Stephen Drew’s all concerns. As a free agent, he is garnering interest from many leading teams however; the A’s GM wants to re-sign him as he showed brilliant performance in the last season with the Athletics.
Beane has also recently spoken with Drew’s agent Scott Boras for a mutual understanding but still both sides are reluctant to agree on any potential deal.
"We've opted not to pursue some (shortstops), and there are still some available to us," Beane said. "To be honest, there's no sense of urgency. We still have a few options."
"The A's are very well run top to bottom, and certainly to put that franchise in a competitive environment stadium-wise would allow their growth," Boras said. "(It would) create just a greater competitive environment and more successful game overall."
Drew last played for the Athletics and achieved hitting average of .223 along with seven homers, 28 RBIs and .309 OBP.
