Oakland Athletics hammer Cleveland Indians 12-7 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics hammered the Cleveland Indians 12-7 in a high scoring game in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 30 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
"We played against a team that we really needed to take a series from, We had a great opportunity to move up in the standings against a team we've played well against all year,” said right fielder Josh Reddick.
Oakland’s offence led by Jarrod Parker proved right for the Athletics as his high class pitching ousted the Indians in great fashion.
Parker pitched five innings and allowed only five runs. He received eight hits along with one homer but overall his pitching remained consistent at 3.72 ERA.
Along with Parker, the Athletics other pitchers also did well and made sure that their team must surpass the Indians.
"It's not too many times I've made a 12 o'clock start, It's like pitching at home at 9 (a.m.) so it's a little bit different. It's not an excuse. It's embarrassing to get that kind of lead not work efficiently and get back in that dugout," Parker said.
Manager Manny Acta said, "I've never been through a month like this anywhere, Not in Washington, the minor leagues or winter ball, either as a coach or a manager."
Evan Scribner pitched 0.2 innings and received one hit and one run on his consistent 2.95 ERA. Though he could not retire any of the Indians’ batters but still his contribution was quite handy in the Athletics’ win.
Relief pitcher Jerry Blevins pitched one solid inning but in his short spell, he did not give many runs. He received only one run on his 2.67 ERA.
Closer Jim Miller pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one hit only on his 2.02 ERA while he also struck-out two Indians’ batters.
On the other hand, Indians' starter Justin Masterson was one player who literally lost the game for his team. He pitched four innings and was hammered with eight runs and smashed for eight hits. He only struck-out one while his ERA remained at 4.91.
