Oakland Athletics hammered by Detroit Tigers 0-6 in final game of ALDS – MLB Recap
Oakland Athletics hammered by Detroit Tigers 0-6 in final game of their five-match American League Division Series encounter on Thursday, October 11 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
"We didn't think it was going to end today, not for a second, We knew we were going up against a good pitcher. That didn't mean we didn't think we were going to win. We've gone up against good pitchers this year. It's a bit of a shock when it finally does end. It was a heck of a story. It was a heck of a run for us," A's manager Bob Melvin said on his team performance which lost the all important last game of ALDS.
Justin Verlander outclassed the Athletics as he did not receive any run. He received four hits and retired eleven Athletics' hitters on his 0.56 ERA. He pitched in the right areas and showed great determination on the mound.
Verlander played the second game of ALDS and proved the winning factor for the Tigers. This was a special occasion for Verlander as during both starts of ALDS, he helped his team oust the Athletics.
Later, the Tigers' manager Jim Leyland spoke about Verlander and told the media about his extraordinary pitching skills which won them the game as well as the ALDS as he said, “I don't have anybody better than him, And if they get to him that much, we'll probably be in trouble. I'm not taking him out, I can assure you of that.”
With this win, not only the Tigers hammered the Athletics in a big margin, but they also won the ALDS and are now keeping their fingers crossed for their next big encounter for American League title.
Athletics knew that this particular game is very important for them, but still they could not play as one unit and lost in the end with bitter humiliation.
Their batters and pitchers played much defensively and rattled by the Tigers' offence with great force.
Rookie starter Jarrod Parker pitched just over six innings and received four runs and seven hits which proved disastrous for the Athletics as they lost with six run deficit.
