Oakland Athletics hope newly signed Manny Ramirez will be a low-cost cleanup hitter – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics’ newly signed experienced hitter Manny Ramirez is making some news as soon as he was arrived in Oakland’s Spring Training Camp in Arizona. His recent signing with the Athletics is itself big news as sometimes other related news falls short in its importance.
Lately, a statement from the Athletics’ franchise has created a buzz in the local and national media who already seem excited about Ramirez’s arrival in the Oakland as well as in the Major League Baseball. After taking retirement to avoid extra humiliation of PED charges, when the League suspended him for almost 100 games using banned drugs last season, Ramirez is back.
According to Athletics’ statement in which general manager Billy Beane said, “We really couldn't find a reason not to, Low risk, high reward, and we have time to evaluate him and time to evaluate some of our younger guys with little or no commitment. It seemed foolish not to take the chance."
Later manager Bob Melvin said for Ramirez with confidence, “If he performs the way he has in the past, I don't know why he wouldn't be, He's been a dominant player in the past. The first trades were made to enhance the system, get younger prospects and more of them, now, you go out and see what you have financially and try to make your team better."
These Athletics executives are somewhat right on their respective stance regarding Ramirez and his game plan. Their point is also valid as before going into the details, the team management should not deny the fact as he is coming with a Minor League contract.
However, for some baseball experts, this is not even a problem, but still whenever Ramirez will be called from the Minor League; he will take some time to adjust well in the Major League environment despite having spent many years in this particular big league. While for several experts, low-cost cleanup hitter means as Ramirez can also be beneficial for the team as role player who will play an active game on different positions with total consistency.
