Oakland Athletics humble San Francisco Giants 8-1 – MLB Spring Training

Oakland Athletics humbled San Francisco Giants 8-1 at the AT&T Park in San Francisco, California on Wednesday, April 4 in their Cactus League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Josh Donaldson put up a solid show in a game that was quite crucial for the Athletics. Using his superb swing technique and physical strength, Donaldson hit two home runs to help his team avoid a Bay Bridge Series Sweep on Wednesday night. The striker drove
in five runs against Yusmeiro Petit in a game that was dominated by the Athletics in every department.
Donaldson is still inexperienced at the MLB level. He will be looking to perform on regular basis to improve his .171 career average. The 26 year old can prove to be a good replacement for Scott Sizemore.
"I've felt good about where he is in his progress, and I think today was a fitting end for him and how much work he's done this spring," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "It's all starting to come together right now."
"Every day in spring training I'm in there doing early work, whether it's hitting, defence, then playing the game, then doing more after the game," Donaldson said. "Right now, I feel it's easier on me mentally and physically just going out there playing
and hitting."
Sizemore, who was acquired from Chicago Cubs in May 2011, performed brilliantly last season. His .249 average with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs in 93 games helped the Athletics win some crucial encounters. Jonny Gomes also made a valuable contribution, hitting
a home run to help Oakland build an impassable lead.
For San Francisco Buster Posey had a decent outing as he added an RBI single in the first inning. Posey seems to be very popular among the fans as he received standing ovations every time his name was announced.
Adding a double in the fourth in Giants’ final outing of 2012 Spring Training, he made the most of available opportunities. Posey will be hoping to help the Giants reclaim the World Series title they won two years ago. Giants’ closer Brian Wilson retired
two batters in the eighth inning.
