Oakland Athletics humiliated by Los Angeles Angels 0-6 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics were shut-out by the Los Angeles Angels 0-6 at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California on Thursday, September 13 in the finale of their four match series.
Manager Bob Melvin will be disgusted with the effort of his team in a crucial American League West Division game. After annihilating the Angels in first three games of the series, the A’s were looking to complete a memorable series sweep on Thursday to further
close down the gap between themselves and the league leaders Texas Rangers.
However, that did not turn out to be the case as Angels lifted their spirits to avoid another embarrassing defeat at their home ballpark. Melvin will be expecting his team to continue their good work over the next two weeks to grab the American League Wild
Card spot.
A’ starter Brett Anderson took his first loss of the season after allowing nine hits and five runs in just over six innings. Relief pitcher Jesse Chavez gave up two hits and one run in just 0.1 innings while closer Tyson Ross tossed up the perfect eighth.
"Obviously, you knew it was going to be a tough day, going up against one of the best pitchers in baseball. But you want to go out there and prove yourself and try to match him pitch for pitch," said Anderson whose ERA rose from 0.69 to 1.93. "I was able
to do that through six, but I got a little tired in the seventh and fell behind. But for the most part, I was happy with the way I battled and got out of some jams."
For the Angels, starter Jered Weaver produced a match winning performance as he gave up just two hits in seven scoreless innings while striking-out nine batters. Relievers Kevin Jepsen and Nick Maronde combined to toss up two scoreless innings to help the
Angels shut-out their opponents.
Torii Hunter homered to right in the seventh inning to break the deadlock. Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout and third baseman Alberto Callaspo made the most of scoring opportunities to help the Angels score five runs in the seventh.
