Oakland Athletics lose free-agent pitcher Brandon McCarthy – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics’ now will enter in the 2013 Major League Baseball season without their starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy who has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks to a two-year deal worth $15.5 million.
Earlier news came out that Brandon McCarthy will be signing again with the Athletics but at the very last moment he agreed to the Diamondbacks. Sources say that McCarthy’s agent argued with the Athletics’ management on length of the contract which later
caused them big time as Diamondbacks later intervened and signed McCarthy for a lucrative deal.
“Speaking as a friend, it's amazing, It's a good situation, good terms, a good team. I'm happy for him. You like to see good guys get rewarded," A's starter Brett Anderson said by phone of McCarthy's deal.
Anderson added, “The way it played out last year, a lot of guys stepped up and pitched well, Now guys have to step up even more. So many guys have gone back and forth, it's like a revolving door, I wouldn't expect anything else at this point. It's crazy
how it's worked out."
McCarthy last played for the Athletics and showed some spirited performances during the 2012 Major League Baseball season. He finished with consistent numbers and achieved 3.24 ERA along with 8-6 win-loss, 73 strikeouts and 1.25 WHIP.
Overall his career stats are also quite consistent with 4.02 ERA along with 37-39 win loss 447 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP. McCarthy, who now is going to start his new beginning with the Arizona Diamondbacks, certainly will have a huge chance to show his talents.
The Diamondbacks also struggled in the last Major League outing however, in this offseason, they have promised to change their game plan for next season. Mainly the Diamondbacks play with a defensive approach however, with some minor changes in the active
roster; the Diamondbacks have assured their fans that they will be coming with much offensive game plan.
Experts also believe that McCarthy’s arrival in the Diamondbacks will be a great offensive thrust itself. He is known for his attacking game and now with the South Arizona baseball franchise, the experienced starter will add some more fire power in the rotation.
