Oakland Athletics lose to Chicago White Sox 3-7 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics lost to Chicago White Sox 3-7 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 12 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
White Sox’s pitchers proved their game as they never let the Athletics’ play freely.
White Sox allowed three runs in total which were enough for them to seal a decent victory over the Athletics.
Chris Sale played tremendously and truly won the game for the White Sox. He pitched 6.2 innings and allowed two runs and six hits. He retired 11 hitters on his consistent 2.60.
Not only the starter but the White Sox’s relief pitchers also played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Nate Jones pitched 1.1 innings and received one hit on his 3.35 ERA.
Closer Addison Reed also played a helping role in his team’s win as he pitched one inning and received one run and one hit. He struck-out two batters on his 3.95 ERA.
"Everything was fine, It was just something crazy, foot went one way, knee went the other. Kind of nervous at first, and once I got around and moving on it, everything was fine," Sale said.
Later Chicago manager Robin Ventura said of Sale, "He was throwing a little harder today than he has in the past few outings, He was able to dial it up whenever he needed it and still was sharp with his slider, too.”
On the other hand, Athletics did not play their natural and aggressive game which proved lethal as they lost bitterly.
"It wasn't our best defensive day, The play was embarrassing, obviously, when Pierzynski went all the way around. (Catcher Norris is) trying to cover third when the third baseman and shortstop converge.” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said.
A’s Bartolo Colon pitched 5.2 innings and allowed six runs, nine hits and five earned runs on his 3.55 ERA.
He was also smashed for a homer and struck-out only two White Sox’s batters.
Though the A’s relief pitchers brought a little stability in the game but they could not do much to save the game for their team.
