Oakland Athletics lose to Kansas City Royals 0-2 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics lost to Kansas City Royals 0-2 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, June 3 at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
"It was just a reaction play, I thought it was in the stands when he hit it. It kind of crossed my mind should I catch it or let it drop. It was just one of those bang-bang plays. I caught it, bobbled it and just tried to chuck it over (Rosales') head a little bit. I put it right there.” Royals’ left fielder Alex Gordon said on his team’s combined effort which now gives them a fair chance to make a potential run for the post season qualification.
Later the Royals’ manager Ned Yost said, "I thought that was a phenomenal play, I thought the ball was going to be in the stands. The thing that was impressive was Alex didn't give up on it. That was a good hit Pena took.”
With this win, the Royals have also won the series 2-1. On Sunday, in decisive encounter, the Royals put up an aggressive show and never gave any loop holes to the A’s fine batting lineup and eventually took the game away in style.
Starter Vin Mazzaro pitched six scoreless innings and proved his brilliant play. He allowed only four hits and struck out three A’s hitters. Maintaining his 2.25 ERA, Mazzaro was the main reason as the Royals surpassed the A’s’ strong batting lineup.
On the other hand, the A’s young starter, Tommy Milone could not hold on to his fast deliveries and gave too much extra spin which was easily picked by the Royals batters as they made two quick runs of his dire pitching and kept their chance alive for clinching the series.
He gave also eight hits and two earned runs along with a home run. His 3.53 ERA is also not consistent as his 103-72 win loss record now puts him in real trouble where his entrance in the next couple of games’ rotation might be in jeopardy.
The Royals’ next series is against Minnesota Twins which will be started on Monday, June 4.
